How it all started

We've been fortunate to work with some of the best hockey players in the world for the last 10+ years and as the training landscape changed (pandemic, technology, etc.) we've done our best to change with it. That meant taking what we do - providing world class coaching to high performers - and moving parts of it online to help players from a distance.

It was around that time that an official named Dan (now an AHL official) reached out. He explained his goals and we realized that he was looking for the same thing our elite hockey players want: a science-backed training program that actually got him results and a coach that cared.

Coach Lucas took on the project and over the last few years has further refined our approach. Now we're excited to partner with the AODP officials association to create a first of its kind program. Our goal is to help ensure that every AODP official that steps on the ice has the tools and confidence to perform. Their body is physically ready for any challenge and they can just focus on their job.

Being a coach I am fortunate to get the opportunity to meet and work with a wide variety of individuals. I love being able to try to figure out the "solution" to their needs for them to find success in their athletic pursuits and in their life's journey. I genuinely care about and look forward to helping people in any way that I can when it comes to their journey through health and athletics.

I completed my undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Physical Health and Education (Honors) in 2013 while playing on the Varsity Men’s Soccer Team (2009-2013).

I've been fortunate to have been a member of the GR Performance team since 2014 and in a Head Coach role since 2018.

They’ve been a huge factor for the progress of my career, to now being a full time AHL linesman and chasing the ultimate dream of the NHL. Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment do I need?

We design the program around what you have, but we suggest finding a location with some fundamental pieces - a squat rack, dumbbells, cables, or bands.

How long is the program?

Each Phase is 4-weeks in length. You are welcome to cancel your membership at any time but we suggest at least 12 weeks of training to see results.

How long are the training sessions?

The length varies depending on the focus of each session but in general you can expect to train for 45-60 minutes.

What if I don't know an exercise?

Your program is uploaded on the Gary Roberts training app. Every exercise has a video and written description to help you work through it.

What if I have questions?

Great question, pardon the pun. We're always here to help and you have unlimited access via text to a GR strength coach.

What if an exercise hurts?

If an exercise is painful we always suggest stopping it and swapping it for different one. You can do that yourself in the app or we're happy to make the switch for you. Just send us a message.
